Of course, I am still alive. However, currently, there is nothing important I could write some words. People are still liars. There is still no god. Hardcore is already dead. Straight Edge isn't cool anymore.

I watched EDGE - The Movie last week wherein Ray Cappo talks about Straight Edge and intolerance in combination with the hardcore scene. I do not share his opinion in every point, however, with respect to the fact that hardcore is one of the most intolerant music scenes I am with him. Such a sad point.

I am looking forward to see one of my - still active - current favorite bands two times this week: Converge.
I hope I'll get some hardcore input on tuesday from Jacob Bannon.

"Unfortunately we are forced to cancel our entire trip to Europe. We've been told by our airline that even if flights were to resume today it would be impossible to get us on a flight for at least a week and probably not until early-May. This of course is a huge disappointment for us all and we are deeply sorry to all our fans... We are currently working with our booking agent in Europe to make good on the cancelled shows at a later date."

[REVIEW] Goldust - Destroyer|Borderlines

Goldust from Germany/Münster, established in 2005 which are constantly playing their asses off released a new Longplayer on Let It Burn Records called Destroyer/Borderlines. They play a mix between Metal, Rock and Hardcore/Punk, however without resulting in the Metalcore genre. They remind me of Ringworm, at least onto the whole clevo-hardcore genre, which is definitely a good thing. The record starts with a doom bass solo and went into pure deep metallic rock, depressive and pissed off vocals are part of the whole record. “To no avail” adds to the depression misanthropy and pure hate, i.e. “slit the throat that uttered the truth”. The last song on the record called “Aenima” creates goose-bumps and heart palpitation with its break down parts and every now and then melodic vocal parts. The artwork which introduce you perfectly into the musical content was drawn by Daniel Ehrlich. As you will see, he did a great job.

Summarizing, this record is impulsive and authentic and Goldust put into hardcore the urgently needed power, heart and expression which is missing in today‘s hardcore scene. Destroyer/Borderlines is the best medicine to throw up the daily frustration of your soul.

Foundation on B9

Things are busy here at Bridge Nine Records and we are more than excited to announce another addition to our roster - Atlanta's straight edge hardcore stalwarts Foundation. No strangers to to the road, Foundation has been seen on tour all over the country; most notably with Bane and on Have Heart's final string of shows last Fall. B9 Owner Chris Wrenn said, "We couldn't be happier to sign Foundation - these guys have been working hard over the last few years and officially caught our attention last summer when we were all blown away by their live show. It's important for us as a label to have a solid, straight edge hardcore band and Foundation is the best band in that genre right now. Champion and Have Heart did great things for Bridge Nine in the past decade and after their demise we are excited to pass the torch over to Foundation."

Foundation will be gearing up for a full US tour in May and June alongside Backtrack and Rotting Out before they head to the studio to record their Bridge Nine Records debut. - ZM´s Electric Lips Music-Video has been chosen by the Metalhammer-Desk to appear on the Maximum Metal DVD Vol. 150. 108 is dead.

A few days ago 108 decided to disband. Here is a note from Robert Fish, the singer of the band.

Aside from the practical side of being in a band with members spread throughout different continents I have found myself struggling to find my place within 108 due to the personal evolution I have gone through. I still find myself, at my core, aligned to the spirit of 108 but I am no longer comfortable with what 108 represents to most people and how that aligns to who I am. Over the years I have tried my best to disregard that aspect of being in 108 but I am tired of answering the questions about it and, more importantly, wrestling with how I address it personally without misrepresenting the rest of the band. We are a band with meaning but not a band defined by a meaning. What does that mean exactly?

Throw out what you think 108's purpose is/was because there was no specific purpose other than to explore who we are and how we relate to the world around us. That was it; plain and simple. In the beginning we all held a common interest in Gaudiya Vaisnavism (i.e. Hare Krsna) but even then it wasn't about being a Hare Krishna rather it was about the personal journey to navigate through all we experience as individuals in a world we can barely understand. People never got that which is understandable as sometimes I think it became blurry to us. When we got back together in 2006 we wanted to focus on who we are today and start redefining how people understood 108. In my eyes it never really happened and it has been a constant source of frustration for me. Here is what I know:

While I adore the lila of Radha and Krishna and find their love for one another to be very inspirational the fact is I am not a Hare Krishna. I do not believe in God and even the question itself seems unimportant, and at times ridiculous, to me. At one point in my life I needed a sense of something greater to keep myself together and the concept of karma gave me a sense of sanity and hope I needed to stay alive. I have have lost interest in even the questions what to speak of the multitude of answers offered by others. I don't claimed to have "truth" at my beckon call and to be perfectly honest it has never interested me. I am what I am and who I am and will embrace that which brings me hope and happiness and leave the rest for others to wrestle with and debate over. 108 will always be tied to Hare Krishna and I just don't have the energy to swim against that current anymore.

108 has been a critical part of my life and helped me navigate many personal traumas and crises. Triv and Vic are two of the most honest, sincere and heartfelt people I have ever had the honor of knowing and creating music with. They are two of my best friends and I hope to always have them as a part of my life. We wrote some songs that will always be at the core of my being and for that I am grateful. Many other people played a role in what 108 was and all that we created and to those people I will always be grateful. It is just time. In my heart I hope that in the near future we have the opportunity to play those songs again, at least one last time, and honor what the band and the songs have meant to us. Only time will tell if that happens. If it does great, if not I will have many amazing memories.

For myself 108 became one of the most interesting actual bands over the last few years. In 2009, I have seen those guys in Chicago and in Belgium at Ieper Fest. I think I don't have to mention here how special those concerts were. In my opinion this decision of 108 really makes me sad because there is one more interesting hardcore band lost, however, it seems to be the only right decision a honest one.

Please introduce yourself. Since when do you take photos?

Hey, here is Christian Bendel from Hamburg/ Germany. I'm 26 years old, freelance photographer and I started taking photos with 10 years. My first photos were nature and landscape photos... but in a professional way I work since the last 5 years.

For the other photographers: Which equipment do you use to take
picturesatshows?

I have the old Canon D20 body and use it with a canon zoom lens ef-s 10-22mm 1:3.5-4.5 usm on shows. My flash is an old Metz 45 CL-4 which I activate manual by hand, not with a cable or automatic stuff...

Who/what was your inspiration to start this expensive hobby?

That was definitively my Dad! I learned so much from him about photography and so it didn't take long time that I got my first camera which was a Hanimex 110 Micro. Only a little box of plastic, it's so funny that I made my first photos with a plastic box;)
Later I wanted to catch all this great but also sad moments which you have in your life. After my Mom died on a cerebral tumor in 2000 I started to live my life much stronger than before because it could end so fast! Since that I know that you have to use every day as the last day and music became a very important part in my life! I went to hardcore shows and other concerts and began catching the short moments of energy, positivity, anger and this "we are all together" thing.

Rise And Fall replaces drummer

Belgian hardcore band Rise And Fall has parted ways with drummer JP, and subsequently added Daan to their line-up as a replacement. Here's the official word:

"Upon getting back from our last U.S. trip (we were over to record and play some shows on the East Coast), Rise And Fall and longtime drummer JP decided to part ways. JP however did a great job at recording 'Our Circle Is Vicious' with us but is now fully focusing on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, in which he won a bronze medal at the world championships in LA in early-June. We have found a replacement in Daan, who some of you might know from Justice and Rhythm To The Madness. Daan is a true phenomenon and genuine weirdo, so he should fit the Rise And Fall mold perfectly."

Let me introduce EXPECT RESISTANCE (not the CrimethInc. Book), a new project by my friend Lexi from Germany. Hardcore lost in my opinion in the last years many of the main important topics, one big to be mentioned is Politics and Activity accordingly. So he invented this new project:

EXPECT RESISTANCE was founded in summer 2009 with the idea to bring animal rights, human rights and politics back to a scene where sometimes those ideals seem to have become trash on the sidewalks of the roads. Of course, not everything’s bad in today’s hardcore scene, there’s still bands having their say.

Our goal is to raise funds to donate them to leftist activists, organisations, collectives who will use that money for a good cause. Humyns struggling to make this world a better place to live for all living beings.

Outbreak set to release new EP

Bands surviving over five years is almost unheard of with the quick turnover rate in today's independent music scene. Outbreak has managed to overcome this obstacle, all the while battling line-up changes and still managing to tour on 5 of the 7 continents. Global touring with a frenzied live show is what's contributed to Outbreak becoming a household name in the punk/hardcore world.

With no signs of slowing down and in preparation for a new full length coming later in 2009, Outbreak and Think Fast! Records have teamed up to release the 7" single/digital download entitled "Work To Death." The effort is a mere taste of what's to come in 2009. Expect the fast and frenzied punk/hardcore you've come to expect from Outbreak, with equal flavor from the more recent releases, all the way back to the beginning, and of course with a fresh appeal that you've come to expect with each Outbreak release.

"It's been a couple years since we released anything new, so we're excited to finally have something for everyone to hear. Basically we've been working on a new album, and in the meantime decided to put out a couple of the songs on vinyl. We wanted to get something new out there soon, and rather than wait for the entire process of the album, we figured it would make sense to do something sooner and closer to home" - vocalist Ryan O'Connor, who also co-owns Think Fast! Records.

Es war ein wichtiger Ausgangspunkt für antifaschistische Aktionen und Bewegungen, kulturelle und soziale Projekte. Nun ist alles vernichtet - Musikinstrumente, die dort angesiedelte Volksküche und Werkstatt sowie diverse Bücher und Computer.

Ein Spendenkonto wurde eingerichtet und da die Bands auf ihre Gage verzichten, wir der gesamte Erlös gespendet.

Es wird mit einer Volksküche und Soli-Cocktails für das leibliche Wohl gesorgt.

Soul Control signed at Bridge Nine Records

Bridge Nine Records has added Rhode Island hardcore outfit Soul Control to its roster. Formed in 2005, the group has previously released material with Rivalry Records, among others.

Guitarist Jim Connolly comments: "After being on Rivalry, we weren’t really sure what would come next. Kyle gave us a chance when no one else would, but we didn’t really know where to go from there. We had this idea and we weren't sure how our idea would be perceived but all of the labels are on their second or third pressings so I think we can say it worked. And we got press coverage and attention we weren't getting before and it enabled us to work with Bridge Nine, so it all came together."

The band will enter the studio in May with Jay Maas (Verse) to record their Bridge Nine debut.

Wait In Vain looking for drummer

Wait In Vain are in search for a permanent drummer. Up until now, the band has been flying long-time friend Keith Sidorowicz from New York to Seattle for tours and one-off shows. Keith is now the permanent drummer for Energy and is unable to do the touring that Wait In Vain has planned for the rest of the year. Rather than find a fill-in for each tour, Wait In Vain is looking to add a permanent drummer that is willing to tour throughout the rest of 2009 and beyond. [REVIEW] Citizens Patrol EP

The band switches between raw hardcore and some groovie jams, but always fast as hell. The lyrics are about a variety of subjects like the downfall of our socity, war, religion...Worth cheeking out!

Doomriders recording new album

Doomriders is currently at Godcity studios in Massachusetts with engineer Kurt Ballou recording their next Deathwish Inc. release. The group has recorded twelve new songs in addition to several covers and according to the band, "everything is sounding amazing." Slated for release later this year, this will be the first proper Doomriders album to feature former Cave In drummer JR Conners.

108 recording new album

108 has been in the studio as of late recording a new album titled "Forever Is Destroyed." The band spent this past weekend in Boston, MA tracking the effort with engineer Alex Garcia-Rivera (ex-Give Up The Ghost), and according to label Deathwish Inc., "the album is extremely raw and intense, ala 108's Threefold Misery album." Notably, the album will feature Mike Justian (Trap Them, Unearth) on drums.

Hardcore metal leaders Hatebreed are set to release their long-awaited new covers album, For The Lions, on Tuesday May 5th, 2009 via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records). This new release is the follow-up to the band's #1 Billboard charting DVD, Live Dominance (released September of 2008).

The songs on For The Lions were carefully selected by Hatebreed to represent a panoramic view of some of their favorite artists and greatest musical inspirations. Having completed the album in 2008, the band felt their work wasn't done yet and just returned to the studio with original guitar player Wayne Lozinak to record additional tracks for the album. The four new covers are among the most bludgeoning the band has yet to record. These include, "Ghosts Of War" (Slayer), "Supertouch/Shitfit" (Bad Brains), "Thirsty" (Black Flag) and "Suicidal Maniac" (Suicidal Tendencies).

Blacktop Records quits

Some of you may know this, some of you may have suspected it and the remainder will come to know it now: Death Is Not Glamorous' CD „Soft Clicks“, released in December 2008, was the last release on BLACKTOP Records.
There will not be any new releases on BLACKTOP Records.

There are lots of reasons. But most important is, that BLACKTOP Records has never been an ineffectual label and never will be an ineffectual label. Considering the available time, there is no possibility to keep up the standards I have. You will have the possibility to read more about it in some selected online- and printmagazines.

The Estore, as well as wholesale operations will continue for a longer time. There will be vast knockdowns in the Estore really soon, so make sure to check this out.

Thursday - Five Stories Falling EP

The above mentioned record is one of my favourites over years. Five Stories Falling was released in October 2002, it is for me the 6th new years eve I am listening to this great EP, especially to the song Jet Black New Year. This song has so much power, emotions and goose bumps parts. On this EP, 4 live songs of Full Collapse, which was in my opinion the best Thursday LP so far, can be found as well as the new studio song Jet Black New Year. The verse with the counting from 10 to 1 - a standard collective chant over the world at new years eve, however this is better - is one of the best i have ever read. I am looking forward to the next 5 new year eve's listening to this record.

Farin Urlaub - Die Wahrheit übers lügen

Dieses neue Album ist sehr sehr eingängig (musikalisch) sowie witzig aber auch anregend und nachdenklich (textlich) geschrieben. Vom Tierschutz bis zur Polizei-Überwachung vom Liebeslied bis zur "Leiche im Teich" alles dabei und beim zweiten Durchhören der Platte ist es bereits möglich Texte mitzusingen. Guter unterhaltsamer zum schmunzeln Punk-Rock von Farin Urlaub wie gewohnt. Befürchte aber auch da doch sehr catchy schnell wieder "über"-hört. Dennoch Guter Typ - gute Platte.

Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman has (sort of) denied recent rumors suggesting that drummer Gil Sharone was no longer in the band. Speaking to Kerrang!, Weinman had the following to say:

"He didn't leave and we didn't kick him out. He will be busy though working with his other band (Stolen Babies) a lot over the next year, so I am talking to other dudes both for Dillinger possibilities and just for me to play with on other creative projects. We still may be touring and writing with Gil though. Kinda in the air. No big drama though or anything."

Storm & Stress signed with Let It Burn Records

TIT FOR TAT! People told us that friendship and business should be separated to avoid conflicts but with Let it Burn, Blacktop, Storm & Stress and The Blackout Argument it is exactly the other way round. Call it imperialistic or cartelization but we have the best times signing each other's bands. Yeah right, whatever… Storm & Stress would have deserved no other record label but Let it Burn Records, anyway. This is going to be a blast!

Storm & Stress' spiritual adviser and manager Wazskostas Testosteron says: "The band is really happy to be part of a new family, the Let It Burn Records family. In times of pure asociality, where no one can save them from their genetic and mental decay, there was no other way to help Storm & Stress getting their pants back than selling their soul to Let It Burn Records. Chris and Feivel definitely are the best missionaries for the lost souls in Storm & Stress. I just phoned the gaming HQ in Ibbenbüren and got the band's feedback, which was: 'Good.'"

More than two years after Thursday first put the idea in their heads, Temporary Residence Ltd. is proud to finally bring together two influential bands from two very different places. Sprung from a conversation with die-hard Envy fan and all-around good dude Geoff Rickly from Thursday, this split was just waiting for the right time to happen.

Recorded in Spring 2008, both bands turn in some of their most inspired work yet. In addition, Thursday invited Anthony Molina of Mercury Rev to remix the dark instrumental "In Silence" into the pitch-black closing track, "Appeared And Was Gone," providing the perfect transition into the massive dynamics of Envy.
